Adaptive Horsemanship & Riding

At Silver Lining Riding, we believe every individual has unique strengths and the ability to grow. Our Adaptive Horsemanship and Riding programs provide opportunities for children and adults to connect with horses, build new skills, and experience personal growth in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Riding and working with horses can be both fun and therapeutic. The horse’s rhythmic movement supports balance, flexibility, and strength, while time spent in the saddle or on the ground encourages focus, confidence, and communication. Participants as young as four work with certified instructors who adapt lessons to meet each individual’s goalsβ€”whether physical, cognitive, social, or emotional.

Lessons are offered in 8-week blocks, primarily in semi-private or group settings. With the combined support of instructors, volunteers, caregivers, and our trusted herd, students progress at their own pace and celebrate achievements that carry far beyond the barn.

Adaptive Horsemanship

Horsemanship lessons provide about 30 minutes of groundwork each session. Particpants connect with their horse through grooming, tacking, and leading, while also learning patience, communication, and responsibility. These skills build a strong foundation for riding and deepen the partnership between horse and student.

Adaptive Riding

Adaptive Riding lessons focus on developing riding skills while also supporting balance, coordination, and confidence. With the guidance of instructors and trained volunteers, students spend about 30 minutes in the saddle, practicing exercises, games, or skill-building activities tailored to their goals.

Adaptive Horsemanship & Riding

A typical one-hour lesson includes both horsemanship and riding. Participants begin with hands-on groundwork, grooming, tacking, and connecting with their horse, before moving into the arena. This balance of time on the ground and in the saddle builds trust, responsibility, and riding skills, creating a well-rounded experience that strengthens both confidence and connection.
